Seminari di viaggio STI

Sanneh Institute Travel Seminar program invites you to visit Ghana and explore its vibrant and welcoming culture. This travel seminar program is hands-on, experiential learning for any and all who are curious about the intersections of religion and society in Africa.

From the first European building in Africa on the coast to one of the oldest mosques in West Africa in the north, this unique program allows you to experience much of Ghana’s cultural and religious history while also engaging with a wide-ranging set of questions around religion, colonialism, the slave trade, the environment, gender, and more.

At The Sanneh Institute, we take our mission seriously and strongly believe that our roots are deep, as is our love of neighbor. We invite college students, professors, scholars, researchers, churches as well as all faith and non-faith organizations to learn about Ghana’s cultural roots and gain critical insights about religious history and its intersections with modern Ghanaian life.

TSI is based close to the University of Ghana’s Legon campus in Accra and closely collaborates with the University’s Department for the Study of Religions. We promise to be your supportive hub as you step into the distinct and dynamic energy of life in Ghana. In choosing to join TSI’s Travel Seminar program, you are gearing up for a wonderful dive into immersive interfaith experiences, access to religious spaces, academic institutions, traditional palaces and travel around the country. We are excited for you to join us!

Principles and Expectations of TSI Travel Seminars

“Practice without thought is blind; thought without practice is empty”, Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana.

TSI Travel Seminars takes Kwame Nkrumah’s words to heart as we hope to embark on a learning experience that combines both critical thinking and practical engagement. With the remarkable resources available to students and others through TSI, participants can expect to leave this trip with a better understanding of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage as well as extensive experience recognizing the interconnectedness of religion, culture, and history and the way this shapes Ghanaian society and impacts people’s lived experiences.

In order to ensure participants can enjoy the program to the fullest, we ask that all agree to the following principles of TSI Travel Seminars.

Principles of The Sanneh Institute Travel Seminars:

  • Nnipa, mpɔtam ne amamere ho nsɛnnahɔ ho nidi– Respect for other people, the environment, and cultural history
  • Adwenemnnahɔ ne ntease nkitahodi– Open-mindedness and open conversation
  • Nkabom dwumadi ne mpɔtam– Teamwork and community

These three principles are important guideposts for our collective travel experience. We want everyone to be able to learn alongside each other with great care and respect. TSI is committed to upholding these principles and working with all to ensure that the experience is a success!

TSI is ready to work with groups and individuals to facilitate visits at mutually convenient times of the year. Duration of visits may range from a few days and weeks, through to a semester or year-long short-term missions.
